Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Q & A
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive, non-surgical (incisionless), endoscopic weight loss procedure. ESG reduces the size of your stomach without incisions or scars using the FDA-authorized Apollo ESG™ System. This small suturing device attaches to a camera passed through your mouth into your stomach while you are asleep. To perform ESG, a physician sutures a patient’s stomach into a narrower, smaller tube-like configuration. The result is a more restricted stomach that forces patients to feel fuller sooner, eating fewer calories, which facilitates weight loss.
This is an outpatient procedure; most patients typically can go home the same day.
ESG provides 49% of excess body weight loss 12 months after the procedure, or 14% average total body weight loss.
